What did you do this past week?

My group finished up phase 3. I cleaned up some stuff in our database. I updated the api schema and the postman tests. I contributed to our final report. We’ve started phase 4, so we’ve planned out our visualizations. I’m trying to figure out how to use D3.

What’s in your way?

My teammate was kind enough to give me a rundown on Javascript in React, but I’ve mostly been doing backend stuff on these projects, so it’s a bit of a learning curve. I wanted to do some Javascript before I finished the class, though.

What will you do next week?

I’ll be working on putting together some of our visualizations. Right now I’m working on constructing the component for a pie graph visualization. I’m also trying to figure out how to use D3.

If you read it, what did you think of The Dependency Inversion Principle?

It’s kind of interesting to see how the articles by this author and the principles he introduces build on one another. My main issue with them is that I don’t feel like I’ve done enough object oriented coding to really appreciate his messages.

What was your experience of relational algebra in Python? (this question will vary, week to week)

The different types of join are interesting. They have pretty specific functionalities, so it’s nice that we get to look at each one in depth.

What made you happy this week?

I’m out of leftovers, so I got to cook a lot this weekend. I made pizza on Friday. The dough didn’t rise as much as I thought it would, but the pizza sauce came out really well. The sauce has a really punchy flavor. I made Turkish delight on Saturday. I didn’t get out the cornstarch clumps as well as I should have, but the flavor was good. The rose is really distinctive. I also made a Thai red curry, and I was very pleased with the result. It’s pretty healthy too, since it has so many vegetables. Tonight I made katsudon, which is a panko coated pan-fried pork chop. The pork I had wasn’t great cut of meat, but it turned out fairly well. The panko gives it a nice texture.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

If you’re trying to get to the second letter of a word on your phone, hold down the space bar on the key pad. It will let you move the cursor around the words freely.
